Steps to Salvation

• Man is a sinner (Romans 3:12 ,23)

  Romans 3:12 All have turned aside, together they have become useless; there is none who does good, there is not even one.

  Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

• Punishment for sin is eternal death. (Romans 6:23)

  Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

• Man deserves the punishment of suffering eternal death. (2 Peter 3:9)

  2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.

• But God loves man and wants to have a relationship with him. (Hebrews 2:9)

  Hebrews 2:9 But we do see Him who has been made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.

• God sent His only son Jesus to take man's place to die as payment for sin-- as a substitute. (John 17:3 , John 14:6)

  John 17:3 And this is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom Thou has sent.

  John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through me.

• Jesus, being without sin, suffered death for each person in order to restore a relationship between God and man. (1 John 1:9)

  1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

• Man does accept God's free gift of eternal life through Jesus by confessing his sin, asking forgiveness, repenting of sin, and asking Jesus to be Lord of his life. (Romans 10:9-10)

  Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; 10 for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
